My Memoir44 House Rules
These rules are, for the most part, experimental (which is one better than just "mental", I suppose). You are invited to try them, and I will add reports how they work out when I had more chance to test them; until then, consider them my "public notebook" of things I'd like to try.
Machine Guns
This rule introduces the denial of movement by a well-placed machine gun position.
-
MG units are designated by replacing one standard infantry figure by an MG Infantry figure (red base, firing MG) and are considered standard infantry except for the following exceptions.
-
Unit size is 2 figures
-
Unit fires at 3-3-2-1 (i.e. max. range is 4 hexes)
-
When ordered, unit may move 1 or 2 hexes, but may only either fire or move, never both. If unit retreats, special MG ability is lost immediately. Replace MG figure with standard figure.
-
Opportunity Fire:
Once in the opposing player's turn, each MG unit may fire at any infantry or artillery unit that enters a hex the MG unit may fire into. The MG unit's owner must decide for any such hex whether he fires or not, before the unit moves on to another hex.
When the MG unit fires, each Grenade symbol rolled counts as one hit and the moving unit takes one casualty. If the unit takes a loss, or if a Star is rolled, the unit is pinned in the hex it
came from, i.e. in the hex it occupied before it moved to the hex it was fired on. The pinned unit can not take any further action for this order.
Normal terrain modifiers apply for this type of fire.
The use of opportunity fire does not need an order to the unit and does not expend a command card.
The "Counterattack" card can not be applied to opportunity fire.
Anti-Tank Infantry
Such units represent infantry armed with light anti-tank weapons.
-
A-T infantry units are designated by replacing one standard infantry figure by an A-T Infantry figure (red base, firing bazooka/Panzerschreck/PIAT) and are considered normal infantry except for the following exceptions.
-
Unit size is not affected.
-
When close-assaulting armor, Star results count as hits.
